Oil spill from Oregon Standard hits San Francisco Bay area

A massive tanker collision tore a hole in the Oregon Standard dumping refined oil into the bay area. Coast Guard and Standard Oil fought to recover over half a million gallons as winds and tides pushed most of the slick toward sea. Wildlife including birds and sea creatures faced dire impacts at beaches and rock refuges.

Grissom's widow sues over fatal Apollo capsule fire

Betty Grissom files two $5 million suits in Houston alleging gross negligence and fraud by North American Rockwell and related firms over the Apollo command capsule involved in the Jan. 27, 1967 launch pad fire that killed Virgil I. Grissom Edward White and Roger Chaffee. Co defendants include North American Rockwell Corp Rockwell Standard Corp Rockwell Standard Co and North American Aviation Inc. The suits claim willful ignorance of safety doubts and failure to warn NASA of hazards.

UPI reports Secret Service seized 102060 in counterfeit twenty dollar bills from a frozen food locker in Gresham. Rutledge Hudelson publisher of the Damascus Observer was arrested for conspiracy to pass counterfeit money. his wife Elzora and sister Dorothy Eckerson were also arrested in Idaho on charges.
