Reagan seeks 950000 mansion for future California governors

Governor Ronald Reagan asks the legislature for 950000 to build a 37 room bluffside mansion overlooking the American River financed by an income tax withholding windfall. The plan includes a five bedroom family wing, five car garage, swimming and tennis court, cellar, sauna and a possible fallout shelter. Construction would start under private architect William Stephenson with completion aimed for 1975, before the next governor takes office.

Welfare reform saves California three billion dollars

A federal state study says Reagan administration welfare reform saved California 3 billion and cut the welfare caseload by 250000. State Social Welfare Director Robert B. Carleson presented the 201 page report to Gov. Reagan, citing projections of avoided spending through June 30, 1973 without the 1971 act.

Bank President and Family Killed in Grandin Extortion Plot

In Grandin Missouri a bank president Robert Kitterman 43 his wife Bertha 38 and daughter Roberta 16 were found bound and shot near an abandoned farmhouse after an extortion attempt. The murders followed Kitterman entering the Bank of Grandin claiming he was wired with dynamite and taking $13000. Police detained two men believed strangers to the town and possible other suspects are being questioned as the investigation continues.
