West Coast dock strike spurs bid for federal intervention
Oregon Governor Tom McCall traveled to Washington to press for federal action to end a 100 day West Coast dock strike by 15 000 longshoremen. Picket lines stretched across 24 ports in California Oregon and Washington after a 22 hour bargaining session failed over a 5.2 million guaranteed annual wage. The Nixon administration said Congress may be the only remedy to avert economic damage as the union and shippers remain at odds on financing and container handling.

MIG Jets Clash With U S Planes Over Laos
Two Soviet built MIG21s fired three missiles at U S F4 Phantoms 60 miles northeast of the Plain of Jars inside Laos but the American jets did not return fire. The attack occurred Monday afternoon as both sides sped back across the border into North Vietnam.
