California study finds no link between smog and lung cancer

A state health department and Air Resources Board study found no medical evidence linking lung cancer to smog in California. They warn smog aggravates emphysema bronchitis asthma and impairs lung function during pollution events and may contribute to heart attack fatalities and traffic accidents.

Sierra Nevada storm buries Truckee with heavy snow

A major Sierra Nevada storm dumped up to two feet of snow in Truckee and surrounding areas, ending its hardest bout since 1951-52. Officials reported travel disruption and potential evacuation needs as crews worked to clear roads and restore services.

GI freed in My Lai case

An Army court martial board freed Sgt. Charles E. Hutto of the charge of assault with intent to kill for shooting at Vietnamese civilians during the My Lai operation. The six-officer jury, all Vietnam veterans, called the verdict generally encouraging for others on trial in the 1968 incident. Hutto is from Tallulah Louisiana.

Agnew questions welfare fixes amid Reagan plan
