Frost proposes 25 ton pollution cutoff for South Coast county
County supervisors set a Feb 18 public hearing on Supervisor Frank J. Frost's plan to lower new stationary source emissions to 25 tons per year for the entire county. He argues the 100 ton limit is unnecessary for areas with few industries and aims to keep the county out of a broader Los Angeles basin district while pushing for a three county unified district. Arrell Fletcher is appointed to lead the district committee as local groups prepare input for the hearing. The board also seeks to amend AB 250 to oppose including the South Coast in a multi county district scored with Los Angeles and other counties.

Board to review slope law in county
The Board of Supervisors reversed a prior decision and agreed to reexamine agricultural grading on steep slopes due to erosion and silting in several areas. An evaluation committee will report back Jan 27, with a larger panel to study strengthening the current ordinance which lacks controls. The Planning Commission had urged permits for slopes over 20 percent, but the supervisors split 3-2, hearing farmers would police their own practices despite concerns.
