Seattle climbers reach Everest summit in 1975 tripod site
Dr. Chris Chandler and Bob Cormack, two Americans, climbed Everest on Oct. 8. The peak’s four square feet hold an aluminum tripod left by a 1975 Chinese expedition, with the pair noting the top’s dramatic outlook and the shadows forming as dusk approached. Chandler, 28, a West Seattle Hospital ER physician, and Cormack, 30, planned flags but ran out of time. A sherpa guide with oxygen issues turned back. Chandler returns to work while eyeing future climbs.
