Correctional science courses advance at Hancock College

Hancock College expands correctional science offerings with five on campus courses and a joint internship program with Federal Correctional Institution Lompoc. The program, started in 1967, offers GS-3 pay during a six to twelve month internship, with many interns advancing to full time Federal positions.

Scouting executives meet in Carpinteria to discuss 1969 budget

Key Boy Scout leaders from Lompoc Mission Council and Santa Barbara County met January 9 in Carpinteria. Attendees included Charles Hurlbut William Praus Hal Lowery Joseph Vesper George Donnelly Marvin Deeter Robert McHargue and Harold Davidson. The board approved a larger 1969 budget to expand Scouting to less-chance areas. Vesper earned the 1968 Boys Life award for Del Rio District and the quarterly commissioner trophy was awarded to the neighborhood commissioners. Awards will be displayed at the Boy Scout office in the Lompoc theatre building.

YMCA Drives Toward Record Membership in Lompoc

General Membership Chair James Longtin announced a YMCA enrollment campaign in Lompoc aiming for 420 members. The drive starts February 3 with four divisions of 22 volunteers each and a large progress chart. Division leaders include Chuck Walker, Marjorie Thomas, Bob Coe, and Orv Erdmann. In Pittsburgh, John Rogal, a former Swift employee, was charged with burglary and receiving stolen goods after thefts at Armour & Co.

Air West Board Approves Hughes Sale Hit by Board Split

Air West directors vote 20 of 24 to approve the sale to Hughes Tool Co. after previous reversals. The $150 million deal covers stock, debts, and airline plans, awaiting CAB and presidential approval as the carrier serves 11 states plus Canada and Mexico.
