The Record’s School Christmas Chess Tournament wrapped up with Cabrillo’s Jay Spewart winning high school top honors. A probe into a dust issue at the Haskell Co. hot mix operation near Santa Barbara Municipal Airport continued Friday. Air Pollution Control Engineer Clifton Seymour said inadequate water in the plant's control equipment caused dust to blanket the countryside. Seymour and Alfred Engle of the county health department inspected the operation after Seymour returned from a South Coast Air Basin meeting.
