Weekend rain brings relief to Santa Ynez Valley ranchers
A New Year weekend rain of about 2.25 to 2.50 inches greened rolling oak hills and valley lands in the Santa Ynez Valley. Ranchers, farmers, and livestockmen welcomed the moisture ending a drought and boosting hay prices with barn stored alfalfa and oat hay reaching 100 to 120 dollars per ton. The storm lifted nine inches for 1975 76 in Ballard area, aided groundwater and wells, and encouraged sprinkler irrigation while aiding oats barley and wheat producers and dormant Walnut and vineyard growers.
