Board approves 25 ag preserves as March 1 deadline nears

The Board of Supervisors approved 25 agricultural preserves and rezonings to qualify for this year’s tax adjustments, with major items from Bixby Ranch Co. and Pt. Concepcion Co. southwest of Lompoc. A Giorgi property preserve was limited to a year in Goleta Valley while Crocker National Bank Parson’s Trust and L. D. W. Parsons withdrawals were approved in Carpinteria Valley. The board also advanced a county water and sewer policy and set a March 5 public hearing, with a full board anticipated. County officials discussed contractor proposals for the state homemaker program and named new retirement and library board appointees. Committee approves military aid with controversial conditions

The Senate Foreign Relations Committee backed a 1.55 billion military aid authorization for the current year. It attached provisions restricting funds for North Vietnam without congressional approval, halting Azores base funds unless a Portugal treaty is presented, and blocking foreign aid after April 30 until impounded domestic funds are spent.

Calley Not Receiving Pay After My Lai Conviction

Army corrected an earlier statement that Lt. William L. Calley Jr. still drew a federal salary. He has not received pay since Aug. 18, 1971, the day his death mass murder sentence was signed. Calley remains imprisoned at Ft. Benning under guard and under review for sentence terms.
