De Anza Day proclaimed as riders reenact historic trek

The De Anza Parade will pass through Lompoc and Santa Barbara County with riders in period dress Saturday through Monday. Al Pico, descendant of Santiago Pico, will play De Anza at La Purisima Mission. Events include a barbecue, pancake breakfast, and a public ceremony in Lompoc where Mayor Art Scott designates Sunday as De Anza Day.

Santa Ynez Ranch School to seek new county permit

The Santa Ynez Ranch School and its satellite foster homes must apply for a new county conditional use permit. After a six hour session in Santa Barbara the Planning Commission unanimously granted a monthlong hearing continuance to March 24 to allow staff to list proposed conditions. If the school fails to pursue a new permit the commission would move to revoke the current permit issued to Derville Academy on Baseline Avenue near Santa Ynez.
