Salmon opener dull as anglers face spotty returns at Port San Luis

Port San Luis saw lively weekend activity with harbor moorings and a $3.50 daily taxi service but fishing was mostly poor. The State Fish and Game Commission rejected higher anchovy quotas amid bait shortages and poaching reports, with fines rising to 596,296 dollars in 1973 and otter populations expanding from Seaside to Soquel Point and Cayucos to Diablo Cove.
