Floating money found and returned after dash for cash

Janice Kowalik spotted money floating around a suburban intersection on January 25 and gathered $500. She kept $160 after offering it to the owner and later turned in the rest, with police confirming the money came from a local restaurant owner’s car receipts and rewarding Kowalik $30.

Memorial fund for Angel Ferrer aids poverty stricken scouts

A memorial fund is set up for 10 year old Angel Ferrer who died in the Feb 9 Los Angeles earthquake. He saved soda bottle money for a second hand Cub Scout uniform and died four days before a planned camping trip. The fund assists poor boys with scouting gear, with contributions handled by Security Pacific National Bank in San Fernando.

Ohio teen robs bank with empty pistol and getaway bike

A 15 year old girl and her 17 year old boyfriend were held on armed robbery charges in Darke County after a Farmers State Bank robbery in New Madison. The girl wore a ski mask and fled with about 5 000 dollars before patrons restrained her and the boyfriend arrived with a second gun. The pair were jailed in Greenville on $5 000 bond.

Wind Blows Ice Into Utah Barn. $15000 Loss

In Utah Lake winds to 50 mph pushed a 9 inch thick 400 foot long ice sheet from shore into Glen Ludlow's barn, levelping it and piling 12 feet of ice inside. Deputy Harold Ockerman noted the wind drove the ice to the barn, destroying the structure and causing about $15,000 in damage.

Alioto denies bribery charge in fee sharing case

San Francisco Mayor Joseph L. Alioto told reporters he did not accept a bribe in the $2.3 million fee split with former Washington attorney general John J. O'Connell and aide George Faler. He testified before a federal grand jury, saying the probe seems politically motivated and noted Look magazine linked him to alleged mob figures. O'Connell testified about 1 hour 20 minutes. both men appeared voluntarily and Alioto offered to return if needed.

Assemblyman calls Reagan a liar over Medi Cal cuts

Democratic Assemblyman John L. Burton accuses Gov. Reagan of lying about being mandated to cut Medi Cal services. The dispute centers on whether a 1968 act required the reductions while officials say the law allowed it and Burton seeks to restore services with a floor vote set. Young drug user finally caught

Terrel James Sansone a 20 year old former bus dispatcher told Judge J R Alamia he started using marijuana about four years earlier in Miami and became a heroin addict with a 100 dollar a day habit. He was sentenced to five years in prison on burglary and forgery charges after pleading guilty and said he wants to get his head right with help. He described leaving heroin but still facing a mental habit and admitted the urge to use again if released today. He was arrested in January during a crackdown on a burglary ring and recaptured after several escapes across Edinburg Harlingen and McAllen Texas.

LA earthquake reshaped San Gabriel mountains and sparked landslides

State geologists reported the February quake measured 6.6 on the Richter scale, lifting the western San Gabriel range three feet and shifting three feet south. Thousands of landslides were noted as studies probe future slippage, while officials foresee decades before another quake of similar impact.
