Madden Raiders at Hancock College Fundraiser Visit

Pender 33 Still Winning on Fast Indoor Dash

Army captain Mel Pender at West Point powered a 70 yard dash in 6.8 seconds at the Mason-Dixon games, tying the indoor world record first set in 1965 and defeating Kentucky’s Jim Green who finished second by one tenth. Green accused the starter of a false start as Pender showed youthlike speed.

Russians spur US runners at Athens invitational

At Oakland Coliseum the US mile two event saw Steve Prefontaine win the 2 mile in 8 34.4 aided by a near full house of 9 506 fans. Prefontaine trailed Rashid Sharafetdinov early before the Russian faded and was passed by Don Kardong for third as Hart won the 60 yard dash. Tim Cuddohy set a Michigan Junior College record in the 1650 yard freestyle after losing his trunks mid race, finishing 18 59.3 to claim the state mark.
