Permanent halt to oil drilling in channel urged by supervisor

County Supervisor George H. Clyde asked the Board of Supervisors to seek a permanent stop to all oil drilling in the Santa Barbara Channel. The move followed a Teague request to Interior Secretary Hickel. North county supervisors blocked advancing the resolution, delaying discussion to this afternoon.

Burglars ransack Lompo c area businesses

Burglars hit the Elks Lodge and Golden Cue Billiard Parlor amid other thefts in Lompo c last night. Cash and a coin collection were taken from the billiard parlor totaling about 700 dollars plus nearly 1,000 in coins. Other break ins damaged safes and cash registers, with smaller amounts stolen from Lompoc Motors and Smith Electric Service. No injuries reported.

North Vietnam delegates fly home for conference

North Vietnam envoy Lee Duc Tho left Paris on a Soviet Aeroflot flight en route to Hanoi with stops in Moscow and Peking. He called the Paris talks routine and warned no progress without U S troop withdrawal from South Vietnam. The departure follows reports of secret U S contacts outside the four party talks.

Lompoc Record Wins Top State Newspaper Award

The Lompoc Record earned first place in the 1969 Better Newspaper Contest by the California Newspaper Publishers Association. Clean-up crews attack miles of oil stained beach

Clean up crews worked to clear 30 miles of oil stained beaches as an 800 square mile offshore oil slick lingered. Union Oil used steam and straw to absorb crude while 1,500 workers labored along the coast to restore sand and rocks.
