Fire crews investigated a $500 house fire caused by a discarded cigarette at 126 B N C St in Lompoc. Airman J C Thome faces a preliminary manslaughter hearing in Lompoc Justice Court for a traffic death of a retired sergeant.

Lockheed Vandenberg NMA to Host UC Santa Barbara Dean

Council motion to commend acting President Hayakawa fails

At a City Council meeting Councilman Brooks Speight proposed a resolution praising acting President Hayakawa for actions during disturbances at San Francisco State College. The motion failed 3-1 with Speight voting yes. A Record correction notes Speight’s vote was misreported. Sierra Club cancels Figeroa Mountain hike. Santa Rosa Valley outing postponed.

Obituary of Joseph Emanuel Ryberg

Funeral services were held at the McPeek Family Mortuary Chapel for Joseph Emanuel Ryberg who died Tuesday. Interment will be private. Ryberg was 81 and born May 25 1887 in Sweden. He was a self employed engineer for 40 years and lived in Lompoc five years at 423 S H St. He is survived by a daughter Mrs C O Cummins of Ashtabula Ohio and a son J E Rybert of Godfrey Illinois.

Thrift Shop Supports Local Groups and Families

Health and Welfare Coordinating Council reports 1968 thrift shop profits of 3883.40 aiding Christmas Cheer 279.10 to groups and 1124.30 to individuals for essentials. The 17th Annual Lompoc Flower Festival Queen’s Contest invites sponsor organizations to sign up by Friday March 7 1969 at the Chamber of Commerce 119 E Cypress. The five top vote getters will become finalists and compete in beauty talent poise and personality. Sirhan Sirhan trial advances toward testimony phase

After five weeks of pretrial maneuvers and jury selection, the murder trial of Sirhan B. Sirhan moves toward testimony next week. Prosecution to open case after seating six alternates among eight men and four women.
