Pulsar photographed flashing beam brighter than 50 suns

UC astronomers at Lick Observatory captured a pulsar in the Crab Nebula flashing its beam with extraordinary brightness. Pulsars, first found in 1967, are highly regular light on off sources thought to be neutron stars weighing millions of tons per spoonful. The Crab Nebula lies about 6 500 light years away.
