California seeks state control of hospital and nursing home fees

U S Navy base clash leaves South Vietnamese battalion wiped out

At Cua Viet near the DMZ, an understrength 4th Marine Battalion of about 100 men was reportedly destroyed with no survivors. North Vietnamese forces followed a long cease fire and overran the position with two battalions of the 101st Regiment, 325th Division. The battle left heavy casualties and captured armor, while no American assets were used.

Stennis Improve Slightly After Washington Holdup

Rezoning Denied Over Water Scarcity in Goleta Valley

County Planning Commission voted 7 to 2 to recommend denial without prejudice of a proposed 93 unit cluster housing project in Goleta Valley due to water scarcity. Deputy County Counsel Susan Trescher cited environmental impact from further use of scarce water. A second 37 unit apartment plan near Ellwood Station Rd. faced a similar fate as developers await Goleta Water District feedback. Continued to Feb 14.
