County to get new superior court room

County supervisors approved 23 375 for remodeling the former personnel department space to create a sixth permanent Superior Court room. Furniture estimated at 20 500 will come from the courts budget as the current facility operates temporarily. Judge Dodson noted a new judge may be appointed by Gov Reagan after Judge Smith retires at year end.

Flood Evacuations Continue in Four Malaysian States

Police and military units evacuated residents in four east coast states hit by monsoon floods since Saturday. About 7,000 people moved to relief centers with 30,000 warned to evacuate. at least 11 killed and two missing after a Thai motor ferry capsized off the coast amid strong winds.

Burglary at Moore's Department Store Reported

Police say a burglar broke a window at Moore's Department Store on Ocean Ave yesterday, stealing a record player and cassette player valued at 175 dollars. The thief taped the window prior to breaking it. the incident was reported just before 9 a.m. after patrols found the store secure earlier, suggesting work after 4 a.m. SWIM CLASSES Signups for the next session take place Thursday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Recreation Dept. four week class for women and tiny tots runs Mon Wed Fri 10 to 11 for women and 9 to 10 for tots. other sessions span two weeks with varied times for beginners to advanced swimmers.

Board approves expansion of 66 unit subdivision

County supervisors approve a tentative map and rezoning by Vandenberg Village Development Co. for a 66 unit expansion along Club House Rd north of Burton Mesa Blvd on a 45 acre site. The land changes from agricultural to single family with 10000 20000 square foot minimum lots. Final agricultural preserve approvals are also granted for several properties in Lompoc Valley Guadalupe Santa Maria Tepusquet Canyon.
