Progress Seen in Food Stamp Fraud, but Ineligible Still Siphon Benefits
Washington officials report partial gains in reducing food stamp rule violations yet about 745,000 ineligible working poor still received an estimated 109.3 million in benefits in early 1976, while 1.8 million eligible participants got 105.4 million in overpayments January through June. The figures, from a quality control review of 40,096 cases, show improved caseload reviews versus late 1975 and outline varied state compliance, with Massachusetts at 22.5 percent ineligible share and Wyoming at 1.5 percent.
