Shortages Seen Reduced as Energy Officials Recalculate Demand
Federal energy officials say overall petroleum product demand is down from two years ago and natural gas shortages have been revised downward. In early December use of all petroleum products averaged 16.4 million barrels daily, about 7 percent below 1974 and 6 percent below 1973. Gas shortage projections have been trimmed from 1.3 Tcf to 140 Bcf for Nov-Feb as milder weather and fuel substitutions ease demand.
