The U S Command says three more B52s were shot down in North Vietnam as air raids continue at high intensity. Six B52s have been lost since Monday with two fighter bombers also downed and crews saved after a crash landing in Thailand.
Hanoi Radio urged the Soviet Union and China to press the United States to stop the bombing of Indochina. Brezhnev warned U S USSR relations could hinge on ending the war as day four of raids by 600 B52s and fighters killed hundreds and leveled thousands of homes.
Santa Barbara County officials will seek a temporary expert meteorological team with air measuring gear to study potential smog impacts from the Insignis project near Solvang. The move follows concerns by the Santa Ynez Valley Citizens Committee about air quality and school capacity debates.
City Administrator Gene Wahlers announced that signing of Assembly Bill 740 by Governor Reagan guarantees 12 percent state support for the regional sewer treatment facility. When eligible for federal funds the project would be funded 87 percent from both sources, saving about 400000 from estimates. Federal eligibility decisions are expected early next year after the city submitted its Sept 25 application as 62nd of over 200 applicants.
In Paris the Vietnamese Communists quit the 172nd session protesting the bombing of North Vietnam. They warned attacks endanger American POWs and cited threats of resumed raids by the United States. UPI reports note diplomacy continues with no immediate resumption date.
