Legislators Criticize California Coastal Plan
Sacramento based lawmakers from both parties voiced first criticisms of the California Coastal Commission plan. They said it lacks specific property tax reform to preserve low and moderate income housing along the 1072 mile coast and debated sending the plan to voters either as is or in a legislative version. An organized coalition announced an initiative drive to block implementation, threatening a major political battle as the commission could sunset in 1976 unless extended.

Bush presses for nonpartisan CIA confirmation
Bush tells the Senate Armed Services Committee politics should not block his CIA appointment. He says political experience is an asset but must be left behind upon confirmation. He would resign rather than obey a presidential order to commit immoral acts or assassinate a foreign leader.
