Redistricting Plan Spurs Westward Move for Third District
The board approved a revised plan giving James M. Slater’s Third District a westward extension to include Southern California Edison coastal property near Pt. Concepcion and the Hollister Ranch. It places the multimi llion LNG plant site in the extended district while Beattie’s Fourth District gains Santa Ynez Valley. Fletcher opposed, citing plans to split the county. Lake Cachuma remains in the Third District under the new lines. The Edison parcel sits beside the Bixby Ranch, with sales under agricultural preserve rules attracting wealthy buyers.
