Spectacular West Coast sky shows light up evening

West Coast residents saw two dramatic sky displays Tuesday. A Minuteman II missile emitted a luminous ice-crystal contrail at 7:35 p.m. from Vandenberg. At 8:58 p.m. a bright light across California Nevada and Colorado was likely a meteor or space junk entering the atmosphere. The FAA and NORAD offered cautious explanations.

County Tax Appeal Hearings Set Amid Record Iden Assessments

County approves 1969 70 tax rate set at $2.32

The Board of Supervisors approved a $2.32 county tax rate for 1969-70 following County Auditor A T Eaves Jr. The rate matches last year after a 20 cent rise. Warden Bogan to shift to Washington post

Federal Correctional Institution Warden J. B. Bogan will move to Washington D C to serve as deputy assistant director of the Bureau of Prisons. He has led the local prison since January 1967 succeeding Olin Minton. Frank Kenton will become warden here with Bogan leaving September 20 and Kenton taking over October 1.

Lompoc Council Sets Public Hearing on License Changes

The Lompoc City Council moved to hold a public hearing on revisions to the business license ordinance though a date will be set at the next meeting on Sept 2. Changes include tax method based on gross receipts with a 30 to 200 dollars range for fixed businesses and flat rates for itinerant firms, plus exemptions and prorating rules.

Kennedy warned to appear at inquest into Kopechne death
