Kissinger and Thieu Hold First Vietnam Talks in Over a Year
In Saigon, President Nguyen Van Thieu and Henry Kissinger met for over two hours in their first Vietnam talks in more than a year. Officials said Kissinger’s visit aimed to assure U.S. support while others speculated on concessions to North Vietnam. The pair planned a second meeting on Friday before Kissinger heads to Washington to brief President Nixon.

Lompoc Hit by Four-Hour Citywide Power Outage
A PG and E substation short circuit knocked out a 12 000 volt line at Chestnut Avenue and E Street plunging Lompoc into darkness from 9 18 p m until 2 05 a m. About 500 outlying homes lost power and Vandenberg Village and Mission Hills were briefly affected. Power was restored citywide by early morning with a secondary outage in the northeast quadrant.
