Israel plans nationwide callup of military reservists

Israel prepared for its first nationwide mobilization since last October as Arab papers denounced the plan. The one day 24 hour exercise was announced after a cabinet meeting in Jerusalem with no date set for the mobilization. Military sources cautioned the move could come in a few days amid warnings of a possible new Arab war within a year.

Mills urges Reinecke to leave state if emergency arises

Goldwater proposes 10 percent cut in all federal salaries

United States Senator Barry Goldwater urged a 10 percent reduction in every federal salary including the president’s reported 200000 a year to curb inflation after meeting with President Ford. He warned the nation faces economic disaster if actions aren’t taken and singled out Congress and the military for cuts.

Carpenters End Six Week Strike In Southern California

Striking Southern California carpenters return to work after a six week stoppage that halted about 1.5 billion dollars in construction. Thundershowers Threaten Southern Farmlands

Storms drenched the South and midlands raising fears for drought hardened farmland. Floodwaters up to five feet swamped parts of Macon Georgia as thundershowers pushed toward the southern Atlantic states from the Rocky Mountains. A National Weather Service official warned the Midwest and Plains storms loosened gully washers that could erode soil critical for drought crops. Nearly an inch fell in Midland Texas and about a half inch in Paducah Kentucky.

Arson Burns Pat Nixon Home in Cerritos

A fire at the former president’s wife Patricia Nixon’s childhood home in Cerritos was ruled arson. The rear of the museum site and Patricia Nixon Historical Park suffered about $2,000 damage before firefighters stopped the blaze within five minutes after a passerby alerted authorities.
