Planning Commission mulls delays on Plaza Center parking variance

Lompoc planners meet tonight to consider a one month postponement on a requested parking variance for the Plaza Shopping Center on North H Street. The agenda also includes a report on a commercial pre zoning request for a 32 acre parcel north of Lompoc proposed for annexation.

Teen Disneyland trips signups at Lompoc Rec Dept

Signups are open at the Lompoc Recreation Department for teen Disneyland trips. The August 13 and August 27 departures cost $14 per person, covering a bus ticket and a ten ticket book at Disneyland. For details call RE 6-1261 Ext. 51.

Veterans of World War I meet in Port Hueneme

The Seventh District VFW and WWI veterans in 12 Tri Counties units hold their quarterly meeting in Port Hueneme on Sunday August 16 with Roy Gatz of Ventura as District Commander and Pauline Moore of Grover City as Auxiliary President. A VFW ladies Auxiliary lunch at 1.50 is planned. all WWI veterans are invited to attend and hear welfare reports. Separately, seventy Lompoc Record carriers toured Disney land in 16 cars as a reward for circulating 1,263 new subscribers in June and July, led by Circulation Director Wes Huffman.

County Overtime Costs Soar Amid Isla Vista Riots

The county reports nine month overtime at about 35 000 excluding Isla Vista riot work. Isla Vista duties in April and June raise cash overtime to over 187 000. Sheriff staff shifts 12 to 14 hours spurred the spike while other departments total around 5 000.

Kathy Wilson of Lompoc earned the special Chairman's Award at the Lompoc Valley Riders All Youth Horse Show held at LaSalle Can yon Arena. Oil ban on tidelands could be lifted this year

A Standard Oil official Reese W Norton said the 18 month drilling ban in state tidelands might be lifted by the State Lands Commission later this year. Speaking to the Ventura Kiwanis Club he cited reasons for resuming drilling and noted that channel operators are forming an oil spill cleanup corporation as part of industry efforts to devise new containment methods.
