Santa Maria Man in Critical Condition After Shootout

Harvey Roberts, 60, remained in Marian Hospital’s ICU with gunshot wounds after a police confrontation yesterday that ended when officers felled him following a hostage incident involving his attorney Buddy Jaquith and a legal secretary. Officer Dan Shiner, 28, was wounded but recovered at home. Roberts had gone to Jaquith’s office during a bitter divorce dispute and reportedly carried a pipe bomb device filled with black powder that was not detonated.
