Lompoc Planning Commission Meets On Home Occupation and Zoning

Lompoc Planning Commission will hear a home occupation permit request for Jay David Watson Jr. to run a gemstone related business from 636 N Sixth St in an A-1 zone. Also on the agenda a lot line adjustment request for 1309 W Nectarine Ave and a division of a 24000 square foot parcel at Airport Ave and Seventh St into three parcels for single family homes. Demonstrators arrested at Diablo Canyon plant protest

Forty eight demonstrators staged a trespass arrest at the Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant near a major earthquake fault in San Luis Obispo. Activists led by Daniel Ellsberg and Barry Commoner spoke at Avila Beach rally attended by about 1,000.

Lompoc Man Escapes Fire Camp By Helicopter

Larry Grafton, 25, led his crew to evacuate a fire camp in Modoc National Forest near the Nevada border. He phoned family late Wednesday saying he was safe, though his pickup and camper were left behind as flames threatened the camp. The Happy Camp guard station survived, and Grafton’s crew relocated west of the blaze as dry lightning sparked hundreds of new fires across Northern California.
