Housing crisis hits low income families in Lompoc
Richard Mires Jr of the Lompoc housing authority says many families earn 800 to 900 dollars monthly but cannot find affordable three or four bedroom rentals. Landlords impose strict rules as demand rises, while welfare recipients and single women struggle. Health and Welfare Council notes many cases including two Utah families living in a car with four children. Emergency short stay housing is also lacking in Lompoc.

Arrest in Lompoc for drunken driving and hit and run
A Santa Ana man, James Steven Bale, 23, was arrested Thursday by Lompoc police on a warrant for drunken driving and hit and run issued by West Orange County Municipal Court. Stolen items include a stove valued around $300 from Marjorie Cartwright's rental at 432 or the St. Vandenberg area. Three newspaper vending machines were stolen from in front of S&S Market and the News-Press offices with varying values. Lompoc High School flag twirlers will host a car wash tomorrow at Alexander's Arco Station, 1023 E Ocean Ave, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. costs $1 for cars and $2 for vans.

Graveside services for Charles William Richey aged 60 are set for 2 30 pm today at Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery. He was born in Wyoming in 1915 and died Wednesday at Vandenberg AFB Hospital. He lived in the area 15 years and is survived by his wife Marie and two sons. Services directed by Gregory McPeek Mortuary.
