Jets aid Cambodian forces inSkoun battle

UPI reports U S jet fighters joined Cambodian troops near Skoun 35 miles northeast of Phnom Penh as they battled heavy Communist resistance to recapture the town. The air strikes aimed to prevent reopening sea routes while ground forces encircled Skoun and received bombing support from U S planes.

Nerve gas vaults loaded for sea disposal from arsenals

Vaults containing World War II nerve gas are being loaded onto a freight train in Alabama for shipment through Georgia and the Carolinas to Sunny Point North Carolina. At Blue Grass Arsenal in Richmond more vaults will be loaded for transport to a ship hulk to be towed off Cape Kennedy and sunk in deep sea. The plan covers 418 vaults and a route through the Southeast starting next week.

Unemployment Rates Climb to Five Percent in July

Washington reports unemployment rose to 5 percent in July, returning to May levels after a June dip. About 145,000 jobs vanished that month, with increases concentrated among adult women and young adult men re entering the labor force. White workers led the uptick, while Negro unemployment held at 8.3 percent.

Three injured in two-car crash on Lompoc Casmalia Road

CHP reported three people injured in a two car crash at the Lompoc Casmalia Road Mt View Road intersection near Vandenberg Base. Diane Monroe 16 suffered unconsciousness and shock. Thomas Fowler 20 and passenger Tom Mancuso 20 were also injured. Both drivers taken to base hospital.
