Green Denton lead Lompoc Marlins at Santa Maria meet

Lompoc Marlins scored 64 points with nine swimmers. Glen Green led with 20 points winning the 100 backstroke and placing in several events, while Tom Denton earned 19 points including a 100 butterfly victory. 11-12 relay teams also won events as the Tri-County League moves to Cabrillo High for the Summer Championship Finals.

At the August 14 event, Lompoc Marlin swimmers qualify for the meet and place across ages. Dawn Laws leads 7-8 girls 50 back. Joey Quinn tops 5th in 50 butter and 9-10 boys 50 back places 50. Tom Denton dominates 11-12 and 15-17 lines with multiple top finishes including a 1:04.8 100 back and a 1:14.9 100 batter.

Monday hot Sunday as A's sweep pair

Carner Captures Bluegrass Invitational in Style

Palmer Nicklaus Team Triumph At PGA Championship

Kingman Drives Giants Past Pirates in Doubleheader Sweep

Giants rookie Dave Kingman belted two homers and drove in four to power San Francisco past Pittsburgh 8-3 in the nightcap and complete a doubleheader sweep after Willie Mays and Willie McCovey provided a 11-7 opener win. Kingman, new to the big leagues, praised Dock Ellis before belting a grand slam the previous day. The wins widen the Giants lead in the NL West to nine games while the Pirates’ NL East lead shrinks to 8 1/2 games. Other NL results followed, including the Dodgers beating the Reds in 11 innings and Houston, St Louis, and Philadelphia also posting wins or ties.
