Sorority honors Founders Day recipients at Beta Sigma Phi
Five women named Girl of the Year by their BSP chapter received special honors at the Founders Day luncheon in Lompoc. Dorris Samaniego earned the Order of the Rose honorary degree, one of only a few in the area, with many officers and members from Xi Lambda Iota assisting. The event, themed Around the World, featured introductions of each chapter winner and notes on service and social activities. A luncheon at the home of Mrs. Thomas Hicks honored Carol Pryor, Chi Phi, as one honoree with remaining awards presented alongside other chapter selections.

Jules Verne French, a longtime bee keeper who retired in 1969, marked his 82nd birthday on Friday April 14 in Lompoc Hospital long term care. Born April 14 1890 in Missouri he moved to California as an infant and built Las Flores Apiaries shipping honey to Los Angeles. He supported by his brother Thomas A French and sister Mrs Joanna Wilkins with tributes from residents and relatives.

First through third year 4-H seamstresses from Lompoc and Santa Ynez valleys held a dress review at Lompoc Presbyterian Church. Participants earned purple and blue ribbons for ensembles in multiple categories, with numerous individuals named for their award categories and affiliations. A separate baby shower was hosted for Tony Mondragon’s wife, with guests, gifts, and the traditional stork game centerpiece.
