Legislation to Roll Back Elderly Welfare Support Passes
In Sacramento the Assembly approved a bill by Joe A. Gonsalves to repeal higher support levels for elderly welfare parents under the Welfare Reform Act. The measure would drop family contributions from 130 to 15 dollars for a four person household and from 40 to 10 dollars for a single individual, restoring pre 1971 levels. The bill, approved 58 to 11, moves to the Senate as Reagan opposes it and supporters say current rates burden low income families.
