Bikecology Day Set for May 8 Movement Launch

Activists from ecological environmental and bicycle groups urge united participation under Friends for Bikecology to kick off a nationwide Bikecology Movement. The May 8 program promotes ecology through bicycling and aims to expand bikeways, reduce pollutants, and raise urban mobility awareness.

Local gymnastic meets planned in Lompoc area

For the first time, Lompoc schools sponsor three gymnastic meets at Cabrillo with Lompoc High and Lompoc Junior High girls. Events begin at 9 15 a m with balance beam, free exercise, uneven bars and vaulting. May 1 and May 15 finishes set at Lompoc High and Lompoc Junior High.

Katharsis and Rush to perform for Cabrillo dance night

The Cabrillo cafeteria hosts an 8:30 pm dance featuring Katharsis and Rush the band from the Central Coast. Tickets are 75 cents at the door. Lompoc Senior High’s Sadie Hawkins dance includes music, decorations, and activities with ASB card discounts.

Teens chosen for Girls and Boys State from Lompoc area

Four Lompoc Valley teens will attend Girls and Boys State conventions this summer at Olympic Village Squaw Valley. Candidates were selected by teachers and principals with American Legion approval based on leadership and top one third scholastic standing.

LHS Journalists Attend San Francisco Convention

Seven Lompoc High School students attended a journalism convention in San Francisco the weekend of April 16 to 18 with sessions on yearbook production and a 400-strong attendance from across the United States. They toured Fisherman's Wharf Wax Museum Chinatown and dined at several restaurants while Mr and Mrs Jim Lowe accompanied them.

The Cabrillo Senior Luau runs tomorrow night with pool and gym access for seniors and guests. Fieldstone provides the music. seniors enter free while guests pay fifty cents.

CASC officers attend annual SABE Conference in Sacramento

Cabrillo student Margo Crummy and Jean Fulkerson attended the sixth annual SABE Conference at Rio Americano High School in Sacramento April 14–16. Delegates presented nine proposals to the State Board of Education, including smoking area designation, funding re-evaluation, senior minimum days, and pass fail options. The board will decide in September 1971 and praised the students for their engaging, provocative proposals.

Roy Thomas shines as top Lompoc Braves pitcher

Roy Thomas, outstanding Lompoc Braves pitcher, balances sports in school and summer leagues. He plays basketball and baseball at Lompoc High, attends Fellowship of Christian Athletes meetings, and plans to choose between University of Arizona and USC after graduation. His parents credit his success and the school honors his contributions.
