Palm trees moved for Refugio park and road project

Palm trees were transplanted from a hilltop site to Refugio State Beach as part of a $2 million highway project on State Route 101. Twenty-five 30 to 40 foot trees were moved using cranes and backhoes, with a near 100 percent survival expectation and ongoing care by the Department of Parks and Recreation. The operation cost about $15,667.50.
