Jacoby Named Leader Of Lompoc Unified Trustees

Richard K Jacoby was elected president of the Lompoc Unified School District board succeeding Gail Steiger. Barbara Berg was chosen vice president, with Jack Helman as clerk. The board reviewed fundamental school proposals and faced questions on Early Childhood Education and school closures.

Three Filipino Moslems ended a record long distance hijack by freeing 12 PAL hostages and surrendering to Libyan security in Benghazi. The Odyssey began in the southern Philippines and covered 8800 miles before the hijackers surrendered. Hostages were briefly moved to Rome before flights resumed.
