Forest service astounded by Indian land trust in Los Padres
U S Forest Service officials learned that a 160 acre tract in Los Padres National Forest near Goleta Valley is held in trust for two Indian women by the Bureau of Indian Affairs. The land's status threatens a county road easement and complicates negotiations with the BIA and Mrs Eugenia Varela. The board of supervisors delayed action to allow talks and continued WIN funding while maintaining road access to critical facilities.
