Ward pushes for public disclosure of free cable service

Jetliner crashes in hailstorm 68 killed near New Hope

A Southern Airways DC9 bound from Huntsville to Atlanta broke up after hail cracked its windshields and engines failed. It plummeted onto a two lane highway in New Hope Georgia killing 68 people on board and injuring 27 on the ground. Ground casualties included a Virginia Beach couple among survivors. FAA sources say hail ingestion caused loss of power as the plane drifted from 15 000 feet toward the highway. The crash left a 300 foot trail of wreckage.
