Solvang May Get Night Theater at Denmarket Square
Four families plan a 250 seat Tivoli Theater on the second floor of Denmarket Square in Solvang, to open at night if the project pencils out. The plan hinges on a potential amendment to the Parking District ordinance, with April 22 set for an informal meeting to discuss the change. Proponents include Theodore Ott and Joel Reims, with Ott Sr. and others from Beverly Hills and Los Angeles moving to Rancho Alisal. The project would face a possible added 35 to 40 parking spaces and an estimated $5,000 cost, but district officials say night use would not compete for spaces. The theater would revitalize Solvang’s lone movie house, last operated in the mid-20th century.
