Ali might be discharged from Claire Contral Hospital soon

Muhammad Ali, 31, expected to leave Claire Contral Hospital after a 12 round loss to Ken Norton and a 1 1/2 hour operation for a broken jaw. Doctors said he is doing well and resting with jaw wired by rubber bands. his wife Belinda was hospitalized after the bout.

Pincay Suspended Five Days at Santa Anita

ARCADIA Calif UPI Laffit Pincay top jockey for the meet faces a five day suspension for careless riding in Friday's fifth race. He will miss the season's last four days at Santa Anita where he has 106 wins this meet. Inwood Quest drifted out in the final sixteenth causing interference with Tudor Roman. Bernwood Quest was moved to third.

NCAA AAU Move to Settle Feud Over Soviet Tour

The NCAA and AAU agreed to seek settlement to allow the Soviet basketball tour, with Walter Byers promising rapid NCAA approval if the AAU files the necessary application. Rep. Peyser said AAU officials indicated readiness to complete forms and send them to the NCAA immediately.

Brewer tops Philadelphia All-Stars in Liberty Bell Classic

Jim Brewer led the U.S. All-Stars to an 85-84 win over the Philadelphia All-Stars in the Liberty Bell Classic with 15 points and key rebounds. Irv Kosloff and Kevin Loughe watched as Brewer sealed victory with a late steal and clock runout. Hornyak led with 17 points for the U.S. squad. McFarland and Hankinson each had 14 for Philadelphia.

UCLA star Bill Walton and Long Beach State’s Ed Ratleff top the 1973 NBA All American selection by 17 NBA coaches and NEA, each with 16 first team votes. Chi Chi Wins Greensboro Open In Rain Delay

Juan Rodriguez known as Chi Chi won the Greater Greensboro Open finishing 17 under par with a 66 final round to earn $42,000. He said God was on his side and dedicated the victory to the late Puerto Rican baseball star Roberto Clemente.

Rams hold open tryout for 300 players at Coliseum
