Obituary notes William Pridgen of Eden county North Carolina died October 14 at age 123. He joined the Continental Army in the Revolution, though exempt by age, served a full term and drew a long pension. He outlived all but one daughter and leaves many grandchildren and great grandchildren. He kept his faculties besides blindness late in life and died after a fever attacked him.
A traveling tailor on the Lakes hed region is pressed by a Yankee who asks where the man has his business. The tailor responds that he lives in Toledo and that his profession is sitting on the smooth side of poverty, jerking out the chords of affliction.
