Verse from the Gentleman's Magazine mourns a missing loved one. It recalls long nights around the hearth, memories of friends, and the ache of absence after ten years. The poem imagines a return home across hardships, with hopeful waves and familiar voices guiding the departed back.
A letter from Major Downing lauds the release of the Two Pollies from peril, calling it a prelude to many escapes from mud and quicksand. The writer urges the Committee of 76 to celebrate virtuous conduct and set good examples rather than imitate bad ones.
An 1837 letter describes the Two Pollies ship breaking from sand and lifting to a keel as tides rise along the coast from Maine to Rhode Island. Citizens board the vessel while Zekel Bigelow delivers a long speech atop the windlass, signaling a lively public scene.

J DOWNING writes from Downingville Militia noting gratitude post shore visits, deriding Loco Focos and urging a charitable illumination instead of political spending. He opposes new rig plans, supports a Thanksgiving proclamation, and calls for pumpkin pie as a symbol of unity.
A Liverpool aspirin of a scientific meeting described a device like a slip bath with an air pump to exhaust air from a sealed chamber. It claimed to relieve congestion of the brain by creating negative pressure, rendering limbs turgid and improving circulation, with other uses for hemorrhage and ulcers.
The Boston Herald describes an As clepeas Cap made entirely from the long fibre of the coshimon Milk Weed stalk. The fibre is silk-like and easily dyed. a lined cape and colored socks from the same material are shown. All items are manufactured and for sale by Margaret Gerrish of Salem, the invention patented.
J Wilcox and Co finished the East Fort Whitewater Canal dam and water flowed for about a mile. The sight restores optimism in the valley and canal prospects from Whitewater to Lawrenceburg. Canal navigation expected next fall and boats planned for next spring and summer to serve fall trade.
At a Boston fair, Mrs. Abigail Welsh of Newburyport displayed a vast carpet made from rags, old stockings, and worn cloths. The estimate shows a total cost around 6 607 dollars for foundation tow cloth dyeing stockings and border thams, made in four months after family work.
The Pennsylvania Constitutional Convention approved by 83 to 14 a duelling ban with penalties and possible legal remittance by the Executive. It also adopted a conscientious objector provision for bearing arms and an allied armed defense clause. A separate note lists Holy Land city populations from Dr Kirkland’s letter. A Baltimore fire caused $20,000 in property loss.
