The Herald, published every Tuesday morning by J C and B Douglass, printers of the Laws of the United States, located on the third story, northeast corner of Marketana Bridge streets.
A judge recounts a melodramatic case in which a ship captain vanished for thirty years after leaving his wife and two daughters. A second marriage followed, and the wife died. The former husband reappears, and amid rumors of piracy, the lawsuit proceeds before five referees with Aaron Burr as counsel. The daughter testifies, declaring the father to be the second husband, and Burr's strategy uses a witness to settle the matter. The verdict favors the defendant, condemning the first husband.
The passage notes Sunda Island as perilous for navigation yet favorable to wreckers among the Orkneys. It recounts a minister whose breach with wrecks led him to lament for his flock and pray that ships be cast ashore unless providence intervenes, ending with a plea not to forget Sanda.
