Washington May 7 the first communication from England's new king to the president of the United States arrived by cablegram. The message expresses deep gratitude for condolences on the death of his father and for good wishes for his future prosperity signed George R I.
Four men were killed and four injured when a stop valve burst in the boiler room of the sea-going tug Cape Charles as it entered the Delaware River from Camden New Jersey. The dead were George Hargis John Clark George Dunlap and William White all Camden or Norfolk workers. The injured were all in the boiler room and rescued by the crew as steam rushed out.

The four Arctic sledges were shipped from Callicoon New York to Captain Joseph E. Bernier of the Canadian Marine. Theodore A. Cook, brother of explorer Dr. Frederick A. Cook, arranged the dispatch.
