Peoria Illinois March 11 Burlington passenger train No 1 leaving the city at 815 PM was wrecked by train wreckers at Vicary coal mine switch five miles from town. The switch was forced open and the train traveling 40 mph was diverted onto a siding into a cut of loaded freight cars. Over 200 aboard but miraculously no lives lost. Passengers rode back on a special train at midnight. Sheriff’s office notified and a posse scours the countryside. Officials suspect robbery as motive.

The Bebees had recent family difficulties and the poison was purchased two days earlier.
An Associated Press report from Philadelphia on March 11 states that coal operators met the miners' committee and refused all demands while proposing a three year renewal of the current contract expiring March 31. National President Lewis of the miners declined to comment.
The Logansport Business Men's Association resolves to support continued regulated saloons in Cass county and urges careful consideration of April 6 vote. They insist they represent business welfare of the city not any saloon interests and call for enforcement of liquor laws and fiscal prudence.

In Sigourney and Burlington Iowa March 11 a mob formed after John Junkin, accused of killing Clara Rosen of Ottumwa, escaped lynching as he was moved from jail to Fort Madison prison. Sheriff Grimes drove 10 miles on poor roads then 20 miles by handcar to outrun the mob and protect Junkin. Police and sheriffs shielded him during transport to the penitentiary amid stone throwing and gunfire.
