Hog prices rise with buyers paying around six seventy to six eighty as weights shift heavy at 240 pounds. Sheep and lambs show prime lambs at four seventy five to five dollars, yearlings three seventy five to four fifty, prime ewes two fifty to three twenty five. Calves range six fifty to seven fifty with heavy grass fed at four to five dollars.
The Associated Press reports a strong market despite lingering recession fears. Trading paused after last week’s selloff, with some covering of abort contracts and renewed bullishness pushing standard stock prices up briefly before a dull close. Bond activity featured Virginia refunding sixes surging 18 points on Supreme Court news, later retreating to 59 34 as the day ended.
New York coffee opened steady then advanced after calls in sympathy with Brazilian interests agreeing to finance a bull clique aiming to hold about 600,000 bags for higher year end prices. Close showed a net gain of 8.15 points with 3,500 bags traded. Futures listed for March through February with varied cents per pound and spot market steady.

Sheep receipts 20,000 with active market. lambs 6.25 to 6.50, yearlings 5.05 to 5.75. Hogs 8,500 with gains to 7.85, to 7.60 in mixed lots. Pittsburg cattle 2,000 up 25 cents. top 6.75. Hogs 5,000 and higher. heavies 7.50, 7.75 for others. Sheep 4,000, lambs 5.00 to 6.60. veal calves 7.00 to 10.00.
Flour quiet and steady with 17 165 barrels receipts. Wheat spot irregular No 2 red 94 percent elevator and 95 percent f o b afloat. May futures 96 97 percent, July 95 percent. Corn spot firm No 3 52 percent f o b afloat. Date spot steady. futures with no transactions. Receipts and shipments figures listed for grain and corn.
Hogs sold strong at the opening on speculative accounts with prices about 10c higher than prior close but gains limited as regulars pulled back. Top hogs reached 7.30 with rumors of 7.82. Cattle trade was strong for the better grades, with steers advancing about 10c and cows steady. Sheep and lambs held and edged higher, with prime lambs at 6.40 to packer bids and better lambs improving.
