Milwaukee June 9 AP reports the Wisconsin GOP closes with a felicitation to President Taft a platform backing the national administration and the selection of William D. Conner of Marshfield as state chairman. A twenty two member campaign committee was chosen two members from each congressional district. Conner's selection was unanimous and he previously led the La Follette faction in a six year old split.
William Coan a coal miner killed William Lawrence at his Clinton Indiana home after finding him arguing with the housekeeper Mrs Lilly. Coan fired a shotgun into Lawrence’s chest causing almost instant death.
In New York on June 9 the jury in the trial of Charles R. Heike Ernest W. Gerbracht and James F. Bendernagel charged in a $2,000,000 customs short weight fraud postponed their hearing to tomorrow morning. Defenses argued the scope of Havemeyer and others and that Heike acted only as a recorder.
Federal grand jury at Columbus returned a five count indictment against the Pennsylvania Railroad for not obeying a War Department order to reconstruct the Steubenville Ohio River bridge. The case echoes the earlier Steubenville wrecking tied to structural iron workers and follows detective activity without a conclusive result. Local employees with ties to the affair will closely watch the proceedings as the railroad challenges the action.

The jury for the Browne bribery case involving Ottawa Il legislative minority leader Lee O Neil Browne was completed in Chicago. Judge McSurely adjourned to Monday morning when the first witness will testify. Browne's counsel may seek a federal stay before testimony begins.

In Louisville Kentucky Alma Kellner was killed by Joseph Wendling the missing janitor of St Johns Catholic Church. A coroner jury found Wendling responsible after deliberating more than an hour. Rosa Staeuble testified she saw a girl with a red hat near the communion rail and witnesses described a man opening the sacristy door.
A city caucus showed strong support to fund an aerial tramway across Eel River to the electric light plant. The plan, estimated at $4,000, would reduce coal-hauling costs of about $2,400 annually and may be bid by the Board of Public Works within weeks with Vandalia railroad involvement.
A tramp nicknamed the knight of the road, A Dolan, was struck by a switch engine near Logansport while boarding a Vandalia freight. He was taken to St Anthony's hospital in Terre Haute where doctors ordered a bath, which he refused claiming he would never bathe. He left the hospital and continued traversing the region.
