A southbound freight train No. 63 derailed between Newmarket and Brown Valley at 2 45 PM. Engine and seven cars left the track at high speed. brakeman Jesse James fireman George E W Moses and engineer Claude C Briggs sustained injuries while Conductor John King and flagman escaped. Wreck crews cleared tracks by midnight. passenger service delayed.
A Southside girl clerking downtown walked into a Panhandle switch engine at the Third street crossing around eight oclock yesterday morning. Tim Sullivan and two switchmen on the locomotive signaled to slow the train and Sullivan braced his arm to push the woman aside, likely saving her from harm as she moved away without giving her name.

Washington July 7 The Senate adjourned at 7 pm with general hope that the tariff bill final vote will occur by tomorrow afternoon. Democrats except McEnery of Louisiana likely oppose. Republicans mostly support. Income tax amendments debated and Bailey proposal rejected 28 to 47. corporation tax provision secured in the bill.
In Barranquilla a faction of the army took up arms against the government proclaiming Gonzales Valencia as president while Holguin acting president denounced the move. Gendarmes were driven from Barranquilla and troops seized the town and steamers on the Magdalena river as martial law was declared nationwide. Valencia disavowed the uprising and is heading toward Bogota with government acquiescence. General Perdomo sails from Honda to Barranquilla with 3000 men and 20 artillery pieces.
